NextGen America welcomes college and university students on campuses across the U.S. to join the Leaders Lab: a student-focused training and development program that empowers campus leaders to become life-long organizers. The program includes organizing training, hands-on experience, professional development, and community-building in order to strengthen our democracy with young people at the center.

Students will receive a $1500 educational stipend for participation in the program to support the educational goals of students – $500 is awarded at the start of the program, and $1000 upon successful completion of the program.

We accept students enrolled in a college or university in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas or Virginia. This program is virtual and delivered via Zoom.

The next available session will be Fall 2025. Applications will open in late April. Submit an interest form today to receive an update as soon as the application opens.

Students will gain:

  • Theoretical and practical training on organizing for change in their communities
  • Experience planning events and using relational outreach as an organizing tactic
  • A network of like-minded peers in their program cohort
  • Personal narrative and storytelling skills 
  • Professional development training, including resources and information about career paths in organizing 
  • Leadership skills and experience in building or sustaining a campus organization
  • Interaction with and the chance to learn from experienced organizers in an exclusive setting
